Cowboy Soldiers

With Memorial Day just around the corner we would like to take a moment to thank the original cowboy soldiers.

The United States Cavalry was a mounted force and special branch of the armed forces for a century, serving during the American Revolution, War of 1812, and the Civil War.

Riding a horse is hard enough but riding a horse while charging at the enemy with a saber in hand takes talent and practice that set these soldiers apart.

As you can imagine, there were many costs beyond the norm that came with this division including feed for the horses, vets to maintain their health, and all the equipment required to ride them.

In the years that passed, horses would be replaced by motorized vehicles and vets replaced by mechanics; however the tradition is still carried on in mounted color guards at both memorials and events across the country.

We are thankful to everyone’s service to this great country, and for those who served their time horseback.
